Appreciate The Good | THE VIRAL Journal, Part 32
By Josh Jennrich
It can often be a difficult task, or something that’s harder to see in our current times, but lately I’ve been noticing so many beautiful and amazing bits of life that I took for granted prior. So many unique sights, interesting smells, and productive conversations that are seemingly adding more value to the way I feel and the way I look at life. If you know me, which some of you reading this may, for others you’ll come to find out, but I’m quite bright and optimistic about life because I have so many confounding entities in my life that I seek to find value within, rather than dwelling on the commodities that may not be as dazzling or sharp.
I want to share some of these “less valued” entities with you all in hopes that the next time you’re struggling to find hope, or purpose, or value in your own personal gratitude, that you can get outside of the everyday micro stresses of this new normal, and find merit and beauty in the abundant list of things we so often take for granted.
The fresh smell of wild roses, chrysanthemums, or lilys.
The first bit of natural light when you open the blinds in the morning
The late night view of the sunset during summer
The fresh smell of nature on a morning walk
The glow of the lake as the sun is setting
The sound of rain fall hitting your windows and rooftop
Getting a tight hug from one of your loved ones
Having a good conversation with a friend you haven’t seen or talked to in a while
The explicit taste you get eating your favorite meal
The incredibly feeling you get when you do something charitable for another
It’s incredibly hard to fathom how fast life can flash right before our eyes. It’s even more remarkable how our society replaces these small, but incredibly perfect times of our life with negativity, despair, and pessimism that steers us away from the reality of all we have to be grateful for. So I encourage you to stay hopeful, to be grateful, and to encourage yourself and others within your community, to find and soak up all of the value that is there within you waiting to be extracted.
For Goodness’ Sake,
Josh
