Community Support | THE VIRAL Journal, Part 31
By Josh Jennrich
This past week had me thinking a lot about the current events our communities, our nation, and our world is dealing with. It’s a pretty wild time to be alive. Am I right?! I was thinking about a time I had a regular commute to my job and a class schedule to see my clients. A time I could go to a restaurant or grocery store and see the workers smiles. Or the customers smiles, for that matter. A time I could go see one of my favorite country artists perform. A time I could head out with some friends to watch an NHL hockey game. A time that I could walk by a small group of people not talking about the corona virus. A time I could have a beer with some friends and not talk about the corona virus. There is no doubt in my mind that so many of you reading this are also missing some of your favorite things! What things are you missing most right now?
It’s been a long time since life felt “normal” for most people. It’s actually been 30 weeks to be exact. For many of you, this may feel like a lifetime! For others, maybe not a whole lot has changed. I want to highlight some great things that haven’t changed. We’re still alive, and for the most part healthy! We all have sunshine and fresh air. We still have our family and friends. We still have roof over our heads and food available to us. We all still have access to things that we love and enjoy doing. We all have LIFE and HAPPINESS available to us!
It’s important to remember that this is a TOUGH time in our lives. It’s also important to remember that you’re doing your best. You’re doing a great job. Regardless of everything, we’ve stuck together within our communities, we’re supporting our friends and family, and we’re loving our neighbors. One of the most positive things that has stuck out to me is the local support of small business around our communities. These small businesses have been built by families, some for generations, and have invested abundant amounts of blood, sweat, and tears into them. Many of these small businesses throughout the nation have been able to survive through this pandemic, and I believe it’s because so many local folks have continued to support and spend their hard working dollar that helps them keep their open sign on for another day. These small businesses have made sacrifices and adjustments to accommodate and make delivery, pick up, and dine in a great experience. It’s important that our communities continue to invest in these places. So this is me commending you for supporting the small business man and continuing to invest your dollar into you community and your neighbor.
You can learn a bit more here about the impact Americans are making in helping small business continue to stay a float during this pandemic.
For Goodness’ Sake,
Josh
