I am Grateful For What I have | THE VIRAL Journal, Part 28
By Josh Jennrich
We are only a nights sleep away from a day that we celebrate our Freedom as Americans. A day to be proud of for many reasons. The biggest reason I believe, is because there isn’t another country in the entire world that is like ours. That’s pretty amazing to think about! So I say, Happy Independence Day or Happy 4th of July! I know I’m most looking forward to some delicious barbecue food, the beautiful sunshine, time with friends and family, some adult sodas, and wearing my Be United ShirtBOARD to promote unity, togetherness, and community to all that see it! The independence that our soldiers before us fought for is the reason we have the ability to start a charity like ShirtBOARDS. I am grateful for that! The support that we have received from our ShirtBOARD community, gives us the ability to help others in need. I am grateful for that! Our ability to wear a garment with a positive message on it. I am grateful for that! The ability to promote goodness and better behavior to those who need it the most. I am grateful for that! Having a simple but powerful idea and throwing it into action to promote change. I am grateful for that!
Remember, we all have a powerful voice within us. Sometimes we can have a hard time using our voice or simply expressing the way that we feel. This doesn’t make any of us abnormal, weird, or even dysfunctional because we have a difficult time. It simply means that you may not have the ability to comprehend what you’re trying to say in the most appropriate way. We want you to use your voice to be heard and be seen. This is why ShirtBOARDS are such a powerful tool for you. It is a platform for you to speak what’s on your mind and positively influence the behavior and attitude of those who read it.
Words can be powerful when they are used correctly. Here’s how powerful they can be. According to Andrew Newberg, M.D. and Mark Robert Waldman, words can literally change your brain. In their book, “Words Can Change Your Brain,” they write: “a single word has the power to influence the expression of genes that regulate physical and emotional stress.” Positive words, like “peace” and “love” can alter the expression of genes, strengthening areas in our front lobes and promoting the cognitive functioning of the brain. They propel the motivational centers of the brain into action, explain the authors, and build resiliency(Everydayhealth.com).
Happy 4th of July! Have fun, be safe, and BE GOOD!
For Goodness’ Sake,
Josh

Our e-journal documents the COVID-19 pandemic from our viewpoint within our community. In the short-term, we hope it promotes connectivity and contrast within our shirtBOARD network. In the long-term, we hope it gives timely interpretations of the event to provide insight and understanding for future generations.
